We got word March 24, 2023 that Showtime has canceled The L Word: Generation Q, thus ending it’s three season run. I cannot say I was surprised to learn of Showtime’s choice to scrap the series. After recapping the last season, it really seemed like the storyline was becoming dull and the newer characters had maxed out on a predictable plot.
The L Word: Generation Q just didn’t have the same spark or groundbreaking appeal that the original The L Word series carried.
Can we all just pretend that Tasha and Alice ended up together and that Dani lives happily-ever-after in a rom-com with her childhood best friend. I’m going to feel better having those loose ends tied up. Everyone else — meh, I’m over it.
The series cancellation has followed Viacom’s merger of Showtime and Paramount +, actively canceling all Showtime original series. Starting from a fresh slate may be the motivating factor.
Along with the finale of The L Word: Generation Q being announced, we got some unexpected news: a possible reboot. How will this differ from the canceled series? We don’t know yet. No details have been mentioned other than the show’s working title: The L Word: New York, and that it’s back in Ilene Chaiken’s hands. Let us pray to Saint Sappho that we don’t have to see that man masquerading as a lesbian ever again and a re-dedication to authentic lesbian culture resurges. Hey, a woman can manifest.
