The Power S1 Episode 9 Recap: The Shape of Power

Allie has nightmares about Sister Veronica. The voice warns her they have no time for guilt. Outside, police lights flash.

Roxy meets with her mom’s boyfriend, forcing her way into the house and interrogating him about Christina’s death. Derek confesses Christina kept their romance secret so Roxy wouldn’t tell her dad. Derek was a cop investigating Bernie’s business. He blames himself for Christina’s death, which was a warning. But Roxy knows who is really responsible.

Margot’s campaign team applaud her latest video. But they’re worried Jos dating a boy with a skein will damage Margot’s popularity. And Margot lies, claiming her marriage is fine.

At school Ryan’s a laughingstock. Yuki bullies him. And when Jos steps in, Yuki is savage. She calls Jos ‘Fizz’ because she can’t always control her power. But Jos is unbothered. She ends the friendship and takes Ryan’s hand.

But Helen, Margot’s PA, visits Ryan’s parents while he’s at school. She encourages them to send him away to a camp for kids who can’t control EOD. Out of sight and out of mind for the election.

Rob flirts with a journalist on Margot’s campaign bus, ending his interview with Katie by sharing his personal email. Meanwhile UrbanDox calls Matty, who’s thrilled to hear from his hero. He asks Matty to spy on Margot’s campaign, playing to his fears and resentments.

Tatiana finds Tunde in his cell, demanding Zoia’s number in exchange for his freedom. And Tunde shares the General’s message: it’s time to pick a side. On the streets Viktor’s death caused chaos. Tunde calls Declan, who urges him to leave the country. Tunde’s being watched. But he’s determined to find Zoia.

Declan gets there first, though. He approaches Zoia’s women by the river, asking for an interview as he crosses. But Declan loses his temper, insulting them. A fatal mistake: the women light him up.

Eddie Marsan (Bernie Monke)

In England Roxy confronts her father, pushing Bernie until he admits killing Christina. Bernie was furious about Derek, seeing her relationship with a cop as betrayal. Full of rage, Roxy taunts Bernie about Terry’s death. He smashes the kitchen up, and the noise wakes the others. Bernie goads Roxy. But instead of killing him she tells Barbara the truth about how Christina died and wakes the power in her. In the chaos Roxy steals Barbara’s diamonds and runs away.

Sister Maria finds Allie, letting her know the police are gone and nobody talked. The coroner thinks Veronica died of a brain haemorrhage. Maria mourns her mentor and mother figure. And Allie reminds her God is everyone’s mother.

Later, Allie preaches by the water. She wakes the power in all the nuns, who throw away their veils. Savannah interrupts the ceremony to accuse Allie of killing Veronica. But they all ignore her. And Allie carries on preaching, promising a warrior will come and damning Savannah.

In an airport Roxy watches the footage, impressed by Allie’s cunning. But Darrell calls to warn her their dad is out for blood. Needing to escape Bernie, inspired by Allie, Roxy changes her flight.

Tatiana sits in Viktor’s old seat, commanding the army to go north. General Miron removes her ankle bracelet. And Tatiana warns him not to disappoint. Out on the streets of Carpathia, Tunde’s frantic to get to Zoia. He tries to board a bus, but it’s full of women joining the rebels. So he rents a car.

Jos sees Allie’s videos. She’s messaging Ryan, but he never responds. Matty’s still getting messages, though – from UrbanDox. And the Cleary-Lopez family drive to Margot’s big debate in silence. Alone with his sisters, Matty tries to convince Jos and Izzy that Margot should drop out for her own safety. And Rob bumps into Kate, who slips him a room key.

Before the debate, Margot’s team warn her not to let Daniel make it a battle of the sexes. But Daniel wants ‘justice’ for Clyde Montgomery. Even worse for Margot, he knows she had Ryan shipped off to camp; that Jos lost control and hurt Matty. Enraged by the personal attacks on her family, Margot shocks Daniel. He drops to the ground twitching. She regrets it instantly. But the cameras are rolling, and there’s no way back.

Tunde travels through the forest, streaming footage of burned out military vehicles. Zoia’s women are using EOD as a weapon – just like Daniel predicted. The river is full of corpses… including Declan’s. Terrified, Tunde retreats to his car.

A burning soldier runs towards him. And Tunde stays to help put out the fire. It’s General Miron, burned and terrified. His forces were massacred because Tatiana betrayed Viktor’s army by warning Zoia. Tunde helps Miron into the car. He takes a call from Ndudi, worried by his video. And Tunde breaks down in tears, traumatised by everything he’s seen.

Zoia feeds her daughter as women execute the remaining soldiers. She speaks to Tatiana on the phone, updating her about the baby. And sisters are glad this girl will never be hurt the way they were.

On the beach Roxy blasts waves with her power. Until Allie steps into the water – she uses it to conduct and stops Roxy, who is stunned. Allie smirks, asking if Roxy still thinks she’s fake. But Roxy’s smart. She knows it’s EOD, not God. Roxy pushes past Allie’s control and blasts her to the ground. Allie’s impressed by her strength. Roxy helps her up, and an alliance is formed. The girls arrive – and Allie introduces the newest member of their family.
