Over the summer, The Wilds dropped their highly anticipated second season on Amazon Prime. However, a couple of months later the news broke that they would not be returning for any more future seasons. The Wilds was one of the first young adult shows to premiere on Prime and was wildly (excuse the pun) successful. So it begs the question… why would they cancel it?
If you have not seen The Wilds yet, let’s catch you up. Essentially, the show is a teenage drama that featured a bunch of teenage girls on a deserted island. It is one of those shows that does not immediately scream *lesbian* but is definitely lesbian-coded; we can assume that at least one of the girls on the island is gay, most likely more than one. Thus, The Wilds is definitely worth the binge. Fast forward through the first season, and you’ll find yourself rooting for Shelby and Toni, the resident lesbians. They’re super cute, for sure.
Mia Healey, who plays Shelby on The Wilds has stated how important she believes the show to be in an interview with E! News. “I think it’s really important to see queer storylines at the front and center. I think for a long time that hasn’t been done, especially a lesbian storyline. It’s so important to show young women and young queer people that these stories are beautiful and they’re complex. And, you know, they have so much gravitas and it’s beautiful.”
So then… why would The Wilds get canned by Amazon Prime?
Season two of the deserted island teen drama continues to follow eight girls on the island, as well as eight guys through some pretty intense situations. However, season two did not receive as much buzz as season one, which essentially led to the cancelation of the show. Since the response from fans on the second season was drastically lackluster in comparison to the first, Amazon Prime decided not to move forward with any new seasons.
However, fans of The Wilds have taken to Twitter to express how much they want a third season; directly contradicting the opinions of Amazon Prime to cancel it.
“I like that we all know The Wilds is canceled but decided to ignore it,” Twitter user CeCe said.
“Using The Wilds as an escapist fantasy from misogyny and homophobia was great until it got canceled due to misogyny and homophobia,” Twitter user Frankie wrote.
“Still not over The Wilds being canceled,” Caroline tweeted.

At this time, there have not been any reports from Amazon Prime that The Wilds will be coming back. However, you can stream the first two seasons on Prime Video.
