The L Word Generation Q: Season 3 Episode 4 Recap

Looking for previous episode recaps? You can find those here: episode 1, episode 2 and episode 3. All good? Let’s proceed.

A Finley and Dani high five. Who’d have thunk?

I’m still so weirded out by the Dani, Sophie and Finley friend group reunion but whatever — I guess it’s healthy and mature to forgive and move ahead. Dani invited her friend Roxy to come hang for Halloween partying and be her wingman.

Taylor and Alice

I guess Taylor accepted Alice’s offer to take her out, after claiming the winning contestant title on the on-air dating show. We know this because, in true lesbian fashion, Taylor hasn’t left Alice’s house in two days. Cue agreeing to hang out for day number three. When we vibe, we fucking vibe.

Tess seems to view Shane’s house as a kingdom (emphasis on the word king,) where Tess and Tess’ Mom are the royalty and shall be catered to while Shane is energetically sucked dry and taken for granted. I seriously cannot stand to see this shit anymore. It’s disturbing on so many levels.

Furthering the discomfort of watching this episode, Angie is still engaging with and dating her professor. Sure, he’s younger but she’s a newly turned 18 year-old girl who is fresh out of high school with minimal life experience. No grown man should be pursuing that, even if you are in your twenties. I said what I said.

This whole thing is… a whole thing

If you thought episode four would chill out for a moment, the joke is on you (and me because FUDGE, this is so extra.) Mirabel and Micah go to a halloween party at a coworker/friend’s house. Here we go: this couple is a straight-with-extra-steps trans identifying man and woman using made up language and fantasy while raising four innocent children. Micah is doe-eyed because making friends with other make-your-own-reality parents is a new dream of Micah’s, apparently. Fun fact: Max from The L Word original series is part of this charade.

Shane is so distraught with her current life choices that she’s continuing her affair with Ivy. More illicit sex, this time in the back of Ivy’s car. And Ivy gifts Shane with a thoughtful and custom gift, so the sentiment here is real.

Finley has a bone to pick with cheaters which seems extremely hypocritical considering she broke up a whole couple at the altar, but okay.

Friendship prevails

In an attempt to be carefree and get over her ex, Dani decides she wants to hook up with her friends. They start getting into it but Dani finds Gigi’s earring and starts to break down. What follows is a truly endearing scene, though, where Dani’s friend immediately switches to supportive friend mode and it’s very sweet. I really enjoyed how this scene changed pace and felt much healthier in the twist.

Dance parties > hook ups

Mmmmm, it shifts up when Roxy tells Dani that she won’t move back to L.A. because Dani isn’t ready to be her wife yet. The moment doesn’t get too serious though as they have a dance party and keep it light and full of laughter. Maybe this is the one for Dani, although I wouldn’t have placed her as Dani’s type.

The catalyst

Shane decides to cut off her sexual relationship with Ivy. “Maybe let’s just, let’s not say anything. Let’s just call this exactly what it was,” Ivy suggest when Shane says she can’t continue. “And what was that?” Shane replies. “An awakening, for both of us,” Ivy offers with a smirk and then a tender hand hold with interlaced fingers seals the goodbye.

I’m going to caption this, “Worth it!”

My favorite part? Shane said the situationship meant a lot to her, and Tess just so happened to have finally shown up to the bar and witnesses the moment. As soon as Ivy walks away, Shane takes a drink in the face and Tess storms out. Good, I hope Tess moves on to exploit someone else.
