Report finds circumstances for LGBT people in Afghanistan are dire

The Human Rights Watch and OutRight Action International interviewed 60 LGBT people from Afghanistan from October to December 2021. Most of the interviewees had fled to nearby countries where they continue to be in danger, including being forcibly returned to Afghanistan. A small portion have completely resettled in environments where they feel safe.

“Many of those interviewed reported being attacked, sexually assaulted, or directly threatened by members of the Taliban because of their sexual orientation or gender identity,” according to the report. “Others reported abuse from family members, neighbors, and romantic partners who now support the Taliban or believed they had to take action against LGBT people close to them to ensure their own safety.

“Some fled their homes from attacks by Taliban members or supporters pursuing them. Others watched as lives they had carefully built over the years disappeared overnight and found themselves at risk of being targeted at any time because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”

Kristen Kish’s Fast Foodies returns

Top Chef winner Kristen Kish didn’t only marry her partner Bianca Dusic in 2021, she also starred in the first season of Fast Foodies, a reality cooking show where chefs re-create a celebrity guest’s fast food go-to with their own twist.

HollywoodLife spoke to Fast Foodies’ three hosts, Iron Chef winner Justin Sutherland and Top Chef winners Kristen Kish and Jeremy Ford about what to expect for season 2. “We’re all more comfortable,” said Kristen. “We also know how the show works. So I think in the inner workings we know exactly what we need to do. We film for 10 to 12 hours a day, so you’re kind of like, okay, what’s going to get cut down into 24 minutes of television? We’re slightly more aware and experienced, and I think having that knowledge also helps us guide the show along a little bit.”
